Health & Wellbeing
The region is well serviced by health care facilities including a large regional hospital in Innisfail that has recently undergone a major multimillion-dollar refurbishment. There is also a hospital in Tully and community health centres in Cardwell, Innisfail, Jumbun, Mission Beach and Tully.
Other health care facilities include medical centres, pharmacies, dentistry, optometry, physiotherapy, pathology, diagnostic imaging, baby health care, ambulance stations, aged care, disability services, nursing homes and community care services. A wide range of support and outreach services exist. Specialist services are available in Cairns and Townsville and serious medical cases are transferred to these cities by road or air.
There are also services particularly offering health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island residents.
Alternative therapies are also easily sourced within the region.
The Healthier Great Green Way (HGGW) project is one of the place based initiatives under the Queensland Strategy for Chronic Disease (2005-2015).
