Business Industry & Resources
The business profile of the Cassowary Coast region features high levels of agriculture, manufacturing and retail.
While traditionally sugar cane dominated the horizon and the economy the rise of the banana industry and diversification into alternative crops including papaya, tropical fruits and forest timbers has provided a variety of primary production alternatives. Regional tourism is also providing commercial opportunities particularly in the Mission Beach area.
Business groups in the area include the Innisfail District Chamber of Commerce, the Tully Chamber of Commerce, the Cardwell Chamber of Commerce and Mission Beach Business and Tourism. Business Women's groups are also active in Innisfail and the tropic coast area.
Industry groups supporting local producers include Canegrowers, Australian Banana Growers and Papaya Australia.
There are several major residential developments on the drawing board and locals are hopeful of economic growth via initiatives surrounding Mourilyan Harbour and the potential transport hub, the ample water supply and tourism opportunities.
Innisfail hosts several Qld Government offices (including Child Safety, Natural Resources, Corrective Services) and a Centrelink office.
The Cassowary Coast Regional Council has offices in both Innisfail and Tully.
