Recreation Cairns
Cairns Regional Council provides a diverse range of facilities, including parks and gardens with BBQ and picnic facilities, public swimming pools, sports' parks and playgrounds, for the whole community to enjoy recreational, sporting and leisure pursuits.
Walking and cycling are an integral part of living in and touring around Cairns. The coastal location, favourable topography and climate make it extremely well suited to pedestrian and cycle travel and Cairns now boasts a very high proportion of residents and visitors, who choose to walk and cycle for transport, recreation and fitness purposes.
Cairns has some of the most beautiful beaches in Queensland. They have been developed as a destination park to cater for individuals and groups of persons who wish to spend a day there. A swimming enclosure is in the water at most beaches to provide safer swimming conditions during the dangerous marine stinger season -typically from November to May (subject to seasonal variability).
