Location

The Cairns Region covers the coastal strip from Bloomfield in the north to just south of Mirriwinni an area of over 4,000 square kilometres scattered with numerous suburbs and townships.   

It includes Queensland's two highest mountains - Mt Bartle Frere (1622m) and its neighbour Mt Bellenden Ker (1593m).  It is a geographically diverse region that features mountains, beaches, tidal wetlands, freshwater lakes, mudflats, mangrove swamps, bays, rivers, estuaries, and fertile coastal plains.

The region has a tropical climate, with generally hot and humid summers and milder, drier winters.
