Lifestyle & Community

Whether you prefer to spend your recreation time relaxing in the water, hiking through rainforests, playing or watching sport, or being entertained or enjoying cultural pursuits the region has something to suit every taste and talent.

There is always something happening in the Cairns Region so the local council provides an events calendar to help keep track of the many concerts, festivals markets and meetings that locals and visitors can participate in.

The rich multicultural mix of the Cairns community means that the year is peppered with festivals and events that provide locals and tourists alike with the opportunity to enjoy  the arts, music, dance and cuisine from countries as diverse as China, Greece, Thailand and Papua New Guinea. Cairns Regional Council supports the Local Area Multicultural Program(LAMP) and provides services to the diverse communities within the region.

Festival Cairns is held annually in August to celebrate the culture, lifestyle, talent and muliticultural diversity of the community.

There is strong community spirit about Cairns with volunteers working with a variety of local organisations including Red Cross, Lifeline and Meals on Wheels. Volunteer opportunities also exist with the Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Surf Lifesaving and Coast Guard just to name a few.
