The Cairns region boasts a large and diverse range of educational services from early learning to high level academic research and all in between.

The regions own  James Cook University is proudly dedicated to creating a brighter future for life in the tropics world-wide, through graduates and discoveries that make a difference.

Primary (including prepatory) and secondary education is provided through 94 State and private schools spread right across the region. A comprehensive list of schools including thier contact details and links to their websites is available through Education Queensland.

Cairns is fast becoming a major destination for international students who are taking advantage of our lifestyle and all levels of our education system. There are several English Langauge colleges providing quality education in a supportive environement. Study Cairns a network of government and private education providers has information on the services offerred by its members.

Boarding facilities at Saint Augustine's College and home stay arrangements at other providers are also available and utilised by families from around the State and Papua New Guinea.

The Australian Government's new My School website enables parents to compare Australian schools using nationally consistent indicators. Just enter the school name or the postcode. 

Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE and a range of private training organisations offer vocational training and career development programs. A specialist Aviation Skills Centre has been operating since 2000. The Great Barrier Reef Marine College was opened in February 2011
